Costa Rica hosts over 850 bird species (about 600 permanent residents) and attracts birdwatcher from all around the world. There are 876 species, 64 families, 6 endemic, 64 endemic shared with neighboring Panama, 16 of 21 families from Central America. This diversity is explained by a particular geography of Costa Rica which offers an impressive variety of habitats, associated with the presence of two coasts (Atlantic and Pacific) and mountain ranges covering over half the country.
